Finmere CofE Primary School

Finmere school

Finmere CE Primary School is small and caring with a family and friendly atmosphere. We are part of The Warriner Multi Academy Trust and we are committed to ensuring that every child in our care is given the finest educational start in life and is encouraged to achieve their full potential.

We are first and fore most a Church school, providing hospitality, nurture and love in a Christian environment, but we are also reflective and passionately wish to serve our community to the full. We are therefore fully inclusive, welcoming and embracing children and families of all faiths and beliefs.

The school is organised into the following teaching units: Pre - School & Foundation (EYFS), Year 1 & Year 2, Year 3 & Year 4 and Year 5 & Year 6 all with Teachers and Teaching Assistants.

We have many strengths, but perhaps one of which we are most proud of is our provision and delivery.  We offer an inspirational curriculum to ability rather than age to empower all our children to progress and attain to their full potential.

The school is well supported by parents; the Friends of Finmere School Association (FoFSA) is very active and organises many social and fund-raising events which significantly boosts the school’s budget.

The Governors are also very supportive and visit the school regularly and offer their individual expertise and advice where necessary.

We are delighted to report that Oxfordshire County Council judge us to be good for provision and achievement (April 2013).

School ethos and values

I am delighted to welcome you and look forward to sharing our wonderful school with you. We are a small, rural, church school in the heart of our village, where we offer a wealth of rich learning opportunities in wonderful surroundings.

We offer small class sizes with excellent teaching and a wide-ranging curriculum to challenge and engage your child in an exciting learning journey.

In partnership with our community, we aim to establish secure roots for every child, enabling them to fulfil their potential in a small nurturing environment.

Through Christian values and principles, we endeavour to equip all our children with the confidence and skills they need to grow into independent, lifelong learners and develop as valued individuals.

We provide a broad, balanced and creative curriculum which enhances the social, physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual well-being of all. We encourage our pupils to be outward looking and developing their interest and knowledge of the wider world beyond our community.

We work closely with a wealth of partners including our local church, the parish council, the Diocese of Oxford, North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership and have strong links with other local schools across Bicester and the wider Oxfordshire area.
In 2016, we were graded Outstanding in the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) and Good by OfSTED in July 2018.
Our motto 'Challenging all to Shine' is underpinned by the parable of the light under a bushel:
'You are the light of the world...let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven'
Matthew 5: 14-16

The Premises

The School building dates from 1959 and is of architectural interest.  The building houses four classrooms, a school hall, a school library (the Studio), a staff room, the general office and Head of School’s office.

We are fortunate to have excellent outdoor areas; there are extensive grass areas on which children play, and vegetable and herb gardens, tended to by the children. There is also an adventure playground, tarmac playground, wooded area and a wildlife garden.

 Partnership Links

As a Church School, Finmere works in close partnership with six other church primary schools in a Church School Cluster group and this is set within the wider Bicester Partnership. The staff and governors from these schools work collaboratively and on a regular basis, to provide a rich and engaging curriculum which is rooted within Christian values.

These schools are:

  • Chesterton CE Primary School
  • Launton CE Primary School
  • Fritwell CE Primary School
  • Fringford CE Primary School
  • Charlton-on-Otmoor CE Primary School
  • St Edburg’s CE Primary School

The wider Bicester Learning in Partnership group (BLiP) is made up of 21 local schools, both secondary and primary.

‘We will work together as a partnership to create a learning community- to the benefit of pupils, staff, governors, schools, school communities, related professionals, employers and the town of Bicester and the surrounding villages.’

Community and Events

The school holds termly services in the village church of St Michael and All Angels, including a traditional Nativity service at Christmas. These are well attended by parents of children at the school and local residents.

The school hosts an annual spring fete, organised by the Friends of Finmere School Association and several other charitable events, including national initiatives such as Children in Need and Comic Relief.

There are regular information evenings held for parents where they can find out about the teaching methods used in school and how they can best support their children at home.
